But what do you need to do as Best Man??

To help you out we have made a list of duties that the Best Man is often responsible for

  • Coordinating with the groom to organising all the groomsmen – you may offer to arrange accommodations for out-of-town groomsmen.
  • Help choose and organise the tuxedos with both the groom and the groomsmen
  • Along with the groomsmen, organise the bachelor/buck’s party, but remember to keep the groom on the straight and narrow!.
  • Be the voice of reasonCold feet can happen, and nerves can set in a month, a week or a minute before the ceremony and you must be the voice of reason for your mate.
  • Attend the rehearsal with the bride and groom and all the other attendants.
  • Prepare your speech for the wedding reception
  • Collect suits for all groomsmen from hire shop a few days before the wedding.
  • Help the groom get ready on the day
  • Ensure the groom arrives at the ceremony venue well before the bride – preferably no later than 30 min before the ceremony
  • Organise the ushers (depending on the size of the wedding)
  • Escort the Maid of Honour, Mother of the Bride and Groom, and other family members at the reception
  • Take care of the rings. If the bridal couple have a ring bearer, you may still be trusted with the real rings – fake rings are often tied to the ring cushion!
  • Sign the marriage licence as a witness after the ceremony, along with the maid of honour.
  • Help round up guests for photos after the ceremony
  • Pay any other suppliers who require payment on the day, including the celebrant or church fees
  • Give the first toast to the bride and groom at the reception.
  • Dance with the maid of honour and the bride, during the wedding party dances.
  • Collect any gift envelopes guests bring to the reception and look after the wedding presents – ensure they are taken home at the end of the night and stored safely.
  • Decorate the getaway vehicle with the other groomsmen!
  • You may be asked to drive the couple to the wedding-night hotel or airport after the reception. If you perform this service, you’ll need to stay sober throughout the reception!
  • Return groom’s suit to the hire shop after the wedding day

Remember to enjoy the day -, you’re there to celebrate the happiest day of your best friend’s life!
